INKIE see no evil Bristol

INKIE see no evil Bristol

Inkie

This artist is one of the most notorious graffiti writers in UK history to emerge out of the 80s Bristol scene. Painting alongside 3D and Banksy, coming 2nd in the 1989 World Street Art Championships, the Kingpin was arrested as the head of 72 other writers in the UK's largest ever Graffiti bust, Operation Anderson. Inkie has since worked as head of design for SEGA, Xbox, and currently resides in Jade Jaggers west London studio. As in-house artist and designer for prints, illustrations, clothing and with his trademark beauty on large-scale pieces, the globally respected artist, whose diverse inspirations collect Mayan architecture, William Morris, Alfons Mucha and Islamic geometry, has exhibited worldwide, been denounced by The Daily Mail and simultaneously lauded by The Times, his art published in the books Bankys Bristol, Children of the Can, Graffiti World and magazines Graphotism and Dazed & Confused

Promoted as the creation of Europe's largest outdoor gallery, Nelson Street, one of Bristol city centre's busiest through roads, was transformed with colour in 2011 and again in 2012. The Upfest production crew worked on behalf of the See No Evil management team, scheduling artists from around the world, working 24hrs a day for 10 days operating access equipment for artists and managing site health and safety requirements

Inkie – Petrie Glazers, North Street –

Bristol local and Upfest regular Inkie already has a number of pieces across nearby streets. He is synonymous with the local street art and graffiti scene. His graffiti nouveau technique being instantly recognisable. The mural overlooking North Street is a homage to his home town of Bristol and the ASK crew which is Bristol based and which he is a member of

Somehow Upfest wouldn’t feel like Upfest without a landmark Inkie piece, and the area plays host to several of his pieces still, from years gone by. Inkie – Bristol – ASK (After Schook Klub) – Vikki. Says it all. A true beauty

Sepr, Cowmead Walk

This is definitely one for the animal lovers, with a character cat, mouse and canary, key components of a cartoon caper. I am not fully clear what the story here is, but the cat seems to be holding a ladder for the canary with a key to its cage resting on its ‘ear’  and a screwdriver which it is using to undo the hinges of the cage door. Meanwhile a mouse has trapped its tail in a cheesy mouse trap.

the red backdrop contains a shelf with a menagerie of small animals in various containers, beautifully painted as a subtle background to the main event. This is a brilliant piece from Sepr which brings to life his illustrative skills and story-telling ability. Great work.

Sheffield-based Phlegm had originally painted on the end of this Hillgrove Street corner house in the Stokes Croft area of Bristol late in 2008. Subsequently it was then covered up by the MM13 crew with this very colourful wave. Then later in June 2009 Phlegm returned to the same spot and added this latest creation to the fantastic wave.

El Mac
Created for the 2011 edition of the See No Evil Festival

painted in Bristol, England titled "Clothed With the Sun". It is located in the center of the city, on a building six stories high. It was painted during an event called "See No Evil", as part of an effort to revitalize one of the more drab streets in the heart of Bristol (yes, the same Bristol that street art superstar Banksy is from). A bunch of other European artists also painted for this event, billed as "Europe's largest permanent street art project".
I wanted to make this image something like a modernized scene from a Renaissance painting, serene and grandiose. Hopefully Raphael or Michelangelo would approve. You could interpret this as an updated Madonna painting, or an homage to single mothers in a country that has the highest rate of single mothers in Europe.

Many thanks to my lady Kim & her baby niece Madeleine for posing, The Bristol City Council & Inkie for helping make this possible, TATS cru for comedy, Weapon of Choice, Tim, and everyone else that helped out or showed some love.
